Biology 1A
Course Description
This course will provide students with an overview of biology- the study of living things. It provides an introduction to the fundamental principles of life as they apply to both plants and animals. It will also provide students the opportunity to study inter-relationships of plants and animals with their environment. This course will fully prepare students for Biology 1B in which Genetics and Evolution are studied and related back to concepts covered in Biology 1A. Upon completion of this course students will show proficiency in course learning standards and daily targets outlined by the Next Generation Science Standards; as measured by classwork, participation, homework, projects, and tests.
Unit Schedule*:
Unit 1 Ecology (Ecosystems)
Unit 2: Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration
Unit 3: DNA and Protein Synthesis
Unit 4: Cell Division and Differentiation
*For individual schedules and standards/learning goals for units- see calendars glued into spiral notebooks and on the class webpage*

Unit 2 Vocab Flash Cards

Unit 2 Exam Study Guide
Important Biology Information!
Hello Parents and Students,
Biology is in full swing, we are wrapping up our unit on Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration with a student inquiry lab and next week we will be taking the test. Tomorrow (Friday) students will be given the study guide for the test which will be next Wednesday (10/26). It is important that students take time this weekend to work on the study guide- not only will it help them prepare for the test, but it can be turned in for extra credit! I encourage all students to take full advantage of any extra credit I give... unfortunately, you may notice on your student's synergy account that they may not be doing so. It's never too late to start!
We are working on a work sample lab- the students are designing their own investigation and will be collecting data tomorrow and Monday. Their lab will be due via turnitin.com by Tuesday 10/25 at noon. I encourage all students to be working on this in the given class time; as well as at home. Their scores will be reported to the district and will count as one of the science lab attempts that they need to complete for graduation- typically they will do 1-2 per year in their science classes.
Here is a recap of important upcoming dates:
Friday 10/21- Quiz 3 (pages 63, 65, 67), Lab data collection, and study guide handed out
Monday 10/24- Finish lab and study guide
Tuesday 10/25- Lab due online, play review game with the class
Wednesday 10/26 - Unit 2 test, study guide due, InterActive Notebook pages 38-67 due for grading.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Hannah Andrews
