Biology 1A
Course Description
This course will provide students with an overview of biology- the study of living things. It provides an introduction to the fundamental principles of life as they apply to both plants and animals. It will also provide students the opportunity to study inter-relationships of plants and animals with their environment. This course will fully prepare students for Biology 1B in which Genetics and Evolution are studied and related back to concepts covered in Biology 1A. Upon completion of this course students will show proficiency in course learning standards and daily targets outlined by the Next Generation Science Standards; as measured by classwork, participation, homework, projects, and tests.
Unit Schedule*:
Unit 1 Ecology (Ecosystems)
Unit 2: Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration
Unit 3: DNA and Protein Synthesis
Unit 4: Cell Division and Differentiation
*For individual schedules and standards/learning goals for units- see calendars glued into spiral notebooks and on the class webpage*

Unit 4 Lesson 1- DNA and Chromosomes

Unit 3 Lesson 5- RNA Translation
Good Morning Parents and Students,
This week we are finishing up our 3rd unit- DNA and Protein Synthesis and we will begin our last unit before the end of the term. Can you believe that this term is almost over?
Students will receive their study guide at the end of class today; it will be their responsibility to work on it on their own time, because we won't have a dedicated day in class to do it like we typically do. On Wednesday we will play a review game, and then on Thursday (11/17) we will take the test. This means that the study guide is due for extra credit on Thursday, and their InterActive Notebooks for unit 3 will also be do (pages 68-87). Then on Friday we will begin our last unit for Biology 1A on Cell Division.

Unit 3 Lesson 4- RNA Transcription

Unit 3 Lesson 3- Functions of Nucleic Acids

Unit 3 Lesson 2- Proteins

Lesson- DNA Keychain Model Activity and WS
