College and Career Awareness Day- Wednesday, October 13th-(Updated-10/12)

College & Career Day

Wednesday, October 13, 2021

Dear Clackamas Middle College Parents and Guardians,

In past years, the state of Oregon has provided funding for 10th and 11th graders across the state to take the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) as practice for the SAT, a college readiness admissions test required among 4 year colleges and universities across the country. Students who were not taking the test were provided a non-school day. This year, Oregon is not providing funding for the test; however, we are excited to share that CMC will be covering the cost for all Juniors to take the PSAT next month on October 13th.

While students in grades 9, 10 and 12 will not be in the school buildings (no in-person school), they will be provided a full day of virtual learning. We will be providing a virtual College and Career Day where students will have the opportunity to hear from representatives at 2 and 4 year colleges and universities, engage in live career talks from local industries, understand the financial aid (FAFSA) process, receive college essay writing support, and much more. In addition, each school will have staff on site to help 12th grade students with their FAFSA application and college and scholarship essays.

During College Readiness Seminar, students will select their virtual session they are interested in attending.  We will also send home the links tomorrow afternoon so that you can preview this information.  All sessions will be recorded and available on the new NCSD College and Career Website  In the meantime, here is a bit more information about what will be happening for students on Wednesday, October 13th.

There are nine different sessions to choose from.  Some are at the same time and they will be recorded and put on the district College and Career website.  Each session is approximately 60 minutes and will run throughout the day.  Each of the  sessions will have  2-3 speakers to choose from. I have included a flyer to the event below and the College & Career district website.

Part of the work that the students will be asked to complete is a Career Related Learning Experience (CRLE) reflection. This activity will help students document part of the CRLE graduation requirement.  Teachers will be following up with students about their learning and students will be asked to complete a scavenger hunt using the College and Career Website.
