2020-2021 Back to School Letter-8/31/2020

August 31, 2020

Clackamas Middle College Students and Parents,

Well, we are in our first week back with staff to begin the implementation of the feedback from spring and summer, along with best practices on Comprehensive Distance Learning.  As you can imagine, we are very excited to improve our practice from the spring, and eager to meet our students.  This week’s communication will address individual student schedules for students taking high school classes in our College Prep Program, as well as information pertaining to our orientation week from Tuesday, September 8th- September 11th.

Our counselors have been busy scheduling students to high school classes in our College Prep Program.  Students in our college programs through CCC should have registered for college classes which will begin at the end of September.  We will have the schedules for students enrolled in high school classes to families later this week.

Because we are implementing a new education model (CDL), we want to utilize the first week back to help students and families navigate Comprehensive Distance Learning successfully.  This week, we began the planning for our Family Orientation Week, which will take place on September 8th- September 11th.  The virtual orientation times will run from 1pm-2:30pm, and will cover the following topics:

        • Abbreviated Student Schedule Introduction (15-20 minutes per class)
        • Student Survey for Feedback and Improvement
        • Family Survey for Feedback and Improvement
        • Question and Answer Session

This virtual orientation is important to ensure that students, families, and CMC staff: are familiar with the tools and resources used during Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL), build community and connection, and build confidence and a culture of support and partnership.  As we continue to work on the orientation process, we will have details sent out later this week about how to attend the orientation sessions along with any other information pertaining to Family Orientation Week.

As I mentioned in my earlier communications, we, at Clackamas Middle College, are committed to provide the best possible education to our students.  Together, with your partnership, our students will succeed and move toward college and career opportunities while enrolled at CMC.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to complete the following survey, please click on the following link.  It is to ensure each of our students has access to reliable internet and a computing device.

Thanks again for your patience and flexibility.  We, at CMC, are very excited to work with our new and returning students and families!  Together, we will ensure a successful school year through Comprehensive Distance Learning for each of our students.

Take care, stay safe, and have a great week!

Respectfully,
