Clackamas Middle College Seniors and Parents,

As we roll into the second week of distance learning for both our high school and college programs, we, at CMC, are encouraged by the contacts we have made with students and hope that everyone is able to establish a comfortable and successful routine for schoolwork.  We are also sending positive thoughts to all families as they navigate through these very difficult times.

Looking ahead to the remainder of the school year, it is necessary for us to prepare seniors for their graduation from Clackamas Middle College.  Because graduation is such an important time in the lives of our seniors, families, and staff at CMC, we will be looking for ways to recognize our seniors and celebrate their accomplishments over the last four years.  As we honor Governor Brown’s “Stay Home, Save Lives” order, our traditional graduation ceremony planned for Thursday, May 31st, will be canceled.  Moving forward, we need to look at unique ways to celebrate our graduating seniors and bring the 2019-2020 school year to a close in a positive manner.

Within the next week, we will be reaching out to seniors and families for their input on a graduation ceremony that will bring closure to their experience at Clackamas Middle College.  Because a lot of planning goes into the creation and completion of a graduation ceremony, we are looking at two options to pick from:

A traditional graduation ceremony held in a physical location (to be determined…) with students, staff, and family (this option would be possible only if the state of Oregon lifts its “Stay Home, Save Lives” order prior to June 1st). This ceremony would potentially be scheduled in mid-late June, or in mid-late August.
A virtual graduation ceremony to include graduate speakers, graduate performances, and a diploma recognition (slideshow) for all our students who earned their high school diploma, college credit and/or college degrees/certificates. This ceremony would potentially be scheduled in mid-late June prior to summer break.

It is important to note that for the Class of 2020, the following requirements have been waived due to the COVID-19 outbreak:

  • State tests, work samples
  • Extended applications
  • Career-related learning experiences
  • Youth Take Action
  • Senior Internship

If you have any questions pertaining to your classes, credits, progress toward graduation, please reach out to your counselor (Kami Aguilar- aguilark@nclack.k12.or.us, Michael Ferber- ferberm@nclack.k12.or.us, or Karyn Renehan- renehank@nclack.k12.or.us).

As mentioned in earlier communications, and to maximize our distance learning opportunities, all students need access to reliable technology.  If you don’t have access to internet and/or a computer, please either call Clackamas Middle College or email eschweilerc@nclack.k12.or.us, and we will work to provide access to those that need it.

For those families who need access to the internet, most internet providers are waiving late fees and suspending data usage limits due to COVID-19.   For students who are without internet access, or poor internet access, please check out the following resources.

This is a very difficult time for many of us, and your patience, flexibility, and communication are very much appreciated!

Please check, “Recent News,” on our website: www.clackamasmiddlecollege.org for any updated information.

I want to thank you all again for your cooperation.  At Clackamas Middle College, we are trying to provide the best possible education to our students during this outbreak!

Thanks, and stay safe out there!
