  • Each class is worth 0.5 credits. You may take one morning AND one afternoon class if you want to earn 1.0 credits.

  • Class requirements will be set by the instructor. There will be projects, assignments, and/or assessments you must complete in order to earn credit.

  • Each class only meets ten times, so each one is important! If you miss more than one class, you will not earn credit.  

  • COVID protocols will be followed. Social Distancing and Masks will be required, based on Oregon State Guidelines for schools.

  • Transportation from neighborhood high school (PHS, MHS, CHS) available

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS


Introduction to Manual Machining 0.5 Arts/Second Language/Professional Technical Credit (Marlana Tizo) (2 sections)

This is the machining side of Survey to Engineering and Manufacturing  class (132031920) This would be a project based class that explores computer aided drafting and basic machining skills. Students will design and make a project to take home. Students will learn and demonstrate safe and proper machine safety. Students will also learn and demonstrate design, layout, blueprint reading and equipment operations in building their project to take home (hammer).


2D Animation 0.5 Arts/Second Language/Professional Technical Credit (Lisa Mundorff) (2 sections)

Through digital art and design we explore the same animation techniques used by professional animators. Make a character walk, a ball bounce and more using Adobe Animate. Students will learn how to apply tweens, use panning effects, create scene transitions, and rig a character. 2D Animation students learn the tools they need to bring images and stories to life, and expand their understanding of design, digital illustration, and visual communication. Students will be given a pre-assessment at the beginning of class to gage their understanding of Adobe Animate, and will demonstrate growth and understanding of 2d animation software by completing assignments and turning in a post assessment at the end of the session.


Digital T-Shirt Design 0.5 Arts/Second Language/Professional Technical Credit (Rochelle Harper) (2 sections)

This course will cover foundations in digital 2D design, including: use of vector software (Adobe Illustrator), design process and vocabulary, and manufacturing processes for t-shirt development.

Students will design their own letter logo as a front pocket design and a color graphic for the t-shirt back. Assessment of digital work will be based on whether the design can be successfully printed, cut, and pressed on a t-shirt for the student to take home.


Intro to Culinary Arts 0.5 Arts/Second Language/Professional Technical Credit (Jason McCammon) (2 sections)

Intro to Culinary Arts focuses on four Culinary Topics- Safety and Sanitation (Oregon Food Handlers Certificate) Basic Baking (weights and Measures & Culinary Math), Nutrition, and Food Preparation (Knife skills, kitchen safety, and cooking methods). 


Geometry in Construction Semester 1 (8:30-11:30 am),  Semester 2 (12:15-3:15pm) 0.5 Math credit (Erika Kuchenmeister) 

This is a hands-on opportunity to recover course credit for semester 1 and/or 2 for Geometry. Students need not have taken Geometry in Construction before; this class is available for students who have taken and not passed any North Clackamas geometry course. This mini-session will review main concepts that are aligned with common core geometry standards through the completion of small, hands-on projects. Topics covered may include: area, volume, & surface area; similar and congruent triangles, right triangle trigonometry, angles formed by intersecting lines, and transformations. 


Personal Finance Simulation 0.5 Elective Credit (Hannah Bierwagen) (1 section)

The Personal Finance-Simulation course teaches key personal finance concepts. Students track personal behavior and spending habits (finding an apartment, finding a job, getting a bank account, paying taxes, and more) to develop personal finance knowledge. Students will gain skills in personal finance, financial literacy, career skills, and life skills. This course provides the most relevant tax, law, and regulatory information possible. The simulation includes updated tax forms, Affordable Care Act requirements, and current health insurance offerings. Written content also covers topics such as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. 


Fashion Retail Marketing - Create and Manage a Virtual Fashion Business! 0.5 Elective Credit (Hannah Bierwagen) (1 section)

Students are challenged to open a fashion retail store in the best location for success. Students also manage all the tasks that lead to a successful fashion business - spotting trends, designing fashion items, buying fashion garments, and designing the store’s visual merchandising. To increase sales, students focus on social media and website marketing for their fashion business. Throughout the project, students consult the financial reports for their fashion business to determine what changes they should implement to increase their sales and profits. Advanced students, once they’ve mastered the intricacies of running a fashion retail store, have the option of opening a second store in the shopping mall. They can test their management and fashion business skills running two popular fashion stores in the same shopping center. Students pursue a cumulative profit goal as they run their business over several fashion seasons.
