Due:
Woohoo! We are almost to the finish line! I really, really, REALLY need your feedback on this whole distance learning thing. I hope we get to do all of next year face to face, but if we need to do distance learning at some point, I want to make it the best experience for students that it could possibly be!
Because I want so badly for you to fill this out, I am giving you points in the gradebook for doing so. Thank you thank you!

Here we are! The final place to gather all of your hard work for this trimester. I hope that this portfolio becomes something that you hang onto and cherish over the years.
Please take a look at the rubric first, so you know what my expectations are for this. Then look at my example, and use the attached template to create your own portfolio. It's due on Tuesday (6/9), then we will have a portfolio reflection and share out activity Wed-Thurs (6/10-11). Thank you!

My face is partially cut off on this video. I know it's distracting, but try to focus on the lesson nevertheless! :)
Due:
Here is my example, and a document for you to write your poem on.
-The rough draft is due to your partner on Friday 5/29
-The final draft is due to me on Monday 6/1
I hope you enjoy this. I ended up having a lot of fun- and a lot of good memories- doing it!

You have the same partners as last time (for the Age Poem). Thanks ahead of time for giving careful consideration to your partner's work!
Due:
Just as in the last poem, I want to know what kind of feedback you want from me. So, in the Private Comments section here, please tell me what what you want me to look for (and it's ok to just ask for compliments!). If you ask for suggestions, you will have a chance to make any additional changes when you submit your portfolio at the end of the term. I will respond to you in the Private Comments section as well.
I can access your poem from the Rough Draft assignment, but if it makes you feel better, you can attach it here too. Be sure to check out the attached rubric one last time before you submit!

Please take a moment to look at my example, then do your own! I have also included the "Raised by" Mentor texts for guidance.
Due:
It's time to write your own Age Poem! Take a look at mine first; as you saw in the brainstorm yesterday (Tues), I chose to write about being 12 years old. You may also notice that there was a LOT of stuff in my brainstorm that didn't make it into the poem. So please feel that you have full artistic license to create the poem you want to create. That said, I do have some expectations about structure and sensory language, so please be sure to check out the rubric attached here to get a sense for that. Rough draft is due Thursday, final draft due Friday.
Again, this should be a creative and satisfying experience for you. Have fun, don't worry too much about "what other people think," and as always, ask if you have any questions!

Hopefully, you have connected with your partner over email (I included the list of partners again here).
In Google Docs, "Share" your rough drafts of your Age Poems with each other, then fill out the partner feedback form. Once you have done so "Share" the feedback form with your partner, then turn it in to me.
Thanks!

This brainstorm activity has been created using the two original Age Poems as mentor texts. THIS WILL NOT MAKE SENSE unless you have done the Edpuzzle lessons exploring those texts that I posted yesterday (Monday), so please be sure to do those first!
Take a look at my example, then choose the age you want to write about, and complete your own brainstorm. Thanks and try to have fun with this!

Due:
Please take a moment to look at your classmates' slides, and then respond to 2 of them in the response box below. You can say something that stood out to you, a book you might want to read, or just a well done slide. I put the students' names in the Notes section at the bottom, if you'd like to compliment someone by name.
Due:
Please take a look at the list of students in this class, then use the Google Form to tell me who you would like to be partnered with for writing feedback. Thanks!
Due:
The first link will get you into our class of Flipgrid, in case you haven't been there yet.
The second link will take you directly to this topic and response.
Remember- I love to see your shining faces, but if you're feeling shy about that, you can just have it record your voice!

Congratulations! You have finished reading the memoir or autobiography you selected!
If we were in face to face classes, I would want you all to hear from each other about the book you read, so we are going to create a group slideshow.
The requirements for your slide are very basic. I've given you an example, and then a template to work with. I will make a class slide show from them, then have you all look at the slides and respond to 2 classmates. The template is very basic, but if you want more fancy stuff on your slide, go for it!

Please take a look at our class calendar, then watch the video to know what your response to this question should be!

Hello young scholars! I have lightened your work load this week by eliminating the Vocab Log and and replacing it with a quick Flipgrid video. If this is your first time on Flipgrid, just sign up using your school Google account. Then record a short video to (1) say hello and (2) tell us something you like about the memoir or autobiography you are reading. There's a video of me on there as an example.
Too shy to show a video? No problem! Flipgrid will allow you to substitute an emoji or some other image, but we can still hear your response. Have fun!
The link that ends with cunningham0330 gets you into the class, and the other one leads you to the topic.

Many of you are making swift progress in your books! We are supposed to be finished reading them one week from today (May 7th). To give you more time to read, I have simplified your reading log. You will see you only have to do 2 entries, and this time I want you to notice an author's technique.
I have also attached a list of techniques and their definitions, to help you choose one.

Please watch the video to know what to do. I look forward to seeing your responses!
Due:
You guys are doing great with these. Keep it up! I included my own again, even though you all are getting the hang of it, because I am finding that doing these helps me stay positive, and I hope they have the same effect on you!
Due:
This is the same format as last week. I hope you're enjoying the book you've chosen to read!

Due:
Instructions are on the "Intro to Weekly Work" video :)
Due:
Many of us had some beautiful things to say about why human beings feel the need to write about their own lives in the last question of the "Authored Self. I made a word cloud from some of the most powerful words in your responses. Please take a look at it, choose one term that stands out to you, and explain why in the response box. Fyi, once you post your response, you'll be able to see what other students said. Thanks!
Due:
Instructions plus your document are attached. Please take a moment to look at the rubric too!
Due:
Please complete and turn in by Friday, 4/17. Instructions are on the document.
Due:
Please read the attached essay by author Reema Zaman, in which she tells the story of how she came to write a book about her life. There are further directions and response questions on the document.
Due:
1. Please open the document to get lots of great ideas for what to read and how to get it.
2. Respond in the comment box, telling me (1) the title of the book you have selected, and (2) how you plan on obtaining that book.
3. Your plan is due by this Wednesday, 4/8, but you have until Thursday, 4/16 to actually get your book. (This is to allow time for those who want to order and have the book shipped to them.) Once we start reading, you'll have 3 weeks to finish your book (due by 5/7).
