Structure of DNA Extra Credit

3-Dimensional DNA Model

Your assignment is to build a 3-D model of the DNA double helix. The model must accurately and clearly show the following:

Double helix structure
Sugar phosphate backbone
Nitrogenous bases are correctly bonding
A minimum of 6 base pairs
Note: You may use any material in your home, as long as it's appropriate for school and not from a pre-made DNA model kit. *Think outside the box!*

Grading: 25 points

Sugar phosphate backbone (4 pts)
Components in proper locations and relationship to other components (4 pts)
Components easily recognized or distinguished *provide a key if needed* (2 pts)
4 different components (type, color, etc) to represent the 4 bases *provided a key if needed* (4 pts)
At least 6 base pairs long (6 pts)
Double helix shape (2 pts)
3-D shape (1 pts)

Submission: Make your model and record a video of yourself explaining the structure, why you chose to make it out of what you did and how you made it. Be sure to explain the backbone, nitrogen bases, bonds, and base pairs.
