Clackamas Middle College Students and Parents,
As we head into this school year, I want to send new communication regarding attendance protocols. This is necessary as we are dealing with COVID-19 and the contagious Delta variant. As mentioned in our earlier communications, our top priority at CMC is to safely return, and keep students in classes. To do this, we will be actively collaborating with ODE, OHA, and NCSD to provide the safest education possible. Currently, the best tools to protect individuals are vaccinations for those eligible, physical distancing, face coverings, ventilation and airflow, and handwashing.
As the year unfolds, it will become necessary to share with families any scenarios that may come into play regarding absences from COVID-19, and COVID-19 related illnesses. These protocols serve to help keep the CMC Community as safe as possible.
If students attending Clackamas Middle College have been diagnosed with COVID-19 or come into close contact with someone who has COVID-19, it is necessary to notify families of the steps we will follow to try and keep the CMC Community safe. Please follow the NCSD COVID-19 Guidelines for Attending School for confirmed, suspected, or close contact with someone who has COVID-19.
- Confirmed COVID-19 Case
- Confirmed COVID-19: a person (with or without symptoms) who received a positive result from a COVID-19 laboratory test.
- Anyone who has symptoms and is confirmed to have COVID-19 should remain at home and away from others for: At least 10 days from when symptoms began AND 24 hours after fever has resolved (without fever-reducing medication) AND symptoms have improved.
- People who test positive for COVID-19 but never develop symptoms should remain at home and away from others for at least 10 days after the date of their first positive COVID-19 test.
- Suspected COVID-19 Case
- Suspected COVID-19: a person who shows symptoms of COVID-19 and has not been tested or is waiting for test results.
- Anyone who has symptoms and has not been tested should remain at home and away from others for: At least 10 days from when symptoms began AND 24 hours after fever has resolved (without fever-reducing medication) AND symptoms have improved.
- Anyone who has symptoms and has been tested for COVID-19 and received a negative result can return after 24 hours after fever has resolved (without fever-reducing medication) AND other symptoms have improved.
- Close Contact with COVID-19 Case
- Close contact: includes anyone in one or more of the following categories:
- Been within 6 feet of a suspected or confirmed positive COVID-19 case for a combined total of 15 minutes or more within a 24-hour period.
- Been in direct contact with saliva or other body secretions from a suspected or confirmed COVID-19 case (for example: been coughed on, kissed, shared utensils, etc.).
- Anyone who is NOT fully vaccinated who has been in close contact with someone confirmed with COVID-19 should remain home and away from others for 14 days from the last day they had close contact with the person with COVID-19.
- Monitor for fever, cough, shortness of breath, and other COVID-19 symptoms.
- Close contact: includes anyone in one or more of the following categories:
People who are fully vaccinated DO NOT need to quarantine after close contact with a confirmed or suspected COVID-19 case UNLESS THEY DEVELOP SYMPTOMS.
We want to ensure reliable school in-person, every day, for all students, all year long, which focuses on the safety and equity of our CMC Community.
Students who find themselves engaging in Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) due to the scenarios listed above, will connect to classes through Google Classroom as lessons will be streamed and recorded for student use. All classroom materials will be available through Google Classroom and should be accessed within 24 hours of the posting of materials. Students engaged in work during CDL, will not be marked absent.
Thanks for your help, understanding, patience, and flexibility. We, at CMC, are very excited to work with our families to make this year a safe and successful one! Together, with your partnership, our students will succeed and move toward college and career opportunities while enrolled at CMC.
