Internship Experience Program
OVERVIEW OF INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE AT CMC
The Internship Experience is a Clackamas Middle College graduation requirement that provides students with real world experiences and tools that will assist them in successfully transitioning from high school into the work force, college, or apprenticeship programs. Students will have the opportunity to earn college credit through Clackamas Community College’s Smart Internship Program. This experience will enable to students to meet the Personalized Learning components including the Extended Application requirement of the CMC diploma: Students apply and extend their knowledge in new and complex situations related to the student’s personal and/or career interests and post-high school goals through critical thinking, problem solving, or inquiry in real world contexts.

For the local businesses and organizations that have supervised a CMC senior for their internship, we at CMC wanted to extend a BIG thank you for your time spent mentoring our student and for the effort you put in to provide a high school student with an invaluable opportunity to explore future career options.
Our students benefit tremendously from working in professional settings to learn more about the realities of the world of work. In order to graduate from CMC, each student completes a minimum of 20 hours in an internship placement, career readiness assignments, and an exit/mock job interview. Many students complete well above the required 20 hours and are able to earn college credit for every 30 hours completed through Clackamas Community College's SMART Internship program.
This past year, our group of 60+ graduating seniors working as interns completed well over 7,260 hours at their job sites and earned over 240 college credits for their internships. This is an incredible accomplishment, but it wouldn't have been possible without the support of our local business community!
If you are interested in partnering with our school as an internship site or contribute in other ways, such as mock interviews, resume help, or visiting our classes as a guest speaker to help support the career development of our students please contact Karyn Renehan at
