Hello!

On Friday, April 24th, 2020 the Asian American Youth Leadership Conference (AAYLC) will be held at Portland Community College Sylvania Campus from 8am-3pm. The theme of this year's conference is "Power Up" AAYLC is an opportunity to inspire, “Asian American youth to value the importance of self-discipline, self-confidence, self-esteem, and the overall rewards of perseverance and achievement. We believe that when youths are provided with resources, empowerment, and opportunities, they can become role models for others in their communities.”

Our school will be sponsoring and providing transportation to interested students. Please let us know by this Friday, March 13th if you'd like to attend this event!!

The keynote speaker this year is Alex Dang!
Alex Dang is an internationally performing poet, TEDx speaker, and slam poetry champion. Featured on HuffingtonPost, UpWorthy, and EverydayFeminism, his work has been viewed on YouTube over 2 million times. Dang has performed in over 50 cities, 30 states, 6 countries, and wants to know what your favorite food is.  

Here are a few additional opportunities that the conference offers for students to get involved (all materials due March 20th):
  • LOGO DESIGN COMPETITION:  The goal of the Logo Design competition is to allow students to demonstrate their creativity and artistic abilities. Winning entries will be on display at the conference and published on the AAYLC.org website. The winner(s) will also receive prizes and recognition at the conference.   • PAUL DUONG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDSThere are three scholarship awards: $1500, $1000, and $500. Please share this information with the college counselor at your school. Please also inform the students about the Chinese American Citizens Alliance Portland Lodge's scholarship program - top prize is $4000.
